Today Google is one of the most used search engines for searches today, I will provide a list of thing that you can do to increase your site search results for a targeted keyword. Using these tips will not only increase your results with Google but will help with other Search Engines such as Yahoo & MSN.

Before you start to promote your site over the internet, it is best to first find out what search term or also known as “keyword” that you want to use to build your campaign. It should be a keyword that is related to your site and one that is actually being searched for. A great keyword research tool that you can use is Google Keyword Tool. Using this tool you can type in a keyword manually or let Google analyze your site by typing in your site address. It will return all the keywords that are found on your site and you can filter the results by search volume and competition.

Once you choose your keyword or keywords you will want to implement this in your site which is known as On-Page Optimization. Ensure that your keywords Meta tag reflect that your keywords are included; the keyword should be in your Title or at least a variation. Also in your site content it is best to have this keyword in your content in the right places but don’t keywords stuff your site where it may look unnatural. When a keyword accounts for 10% of the entire page content this is too much. When using keywords in your site, Search Engines will pick up if the keywords are in bold or italic. There are more ways to optimize your on page content but there is too much to cover in this article. I started with the basics.

Now for Off-Page Optimization also known as link building, this is one of the most important factors when it comes to your site getting ranked in Google. There are many options when building links. Generally it is best to get your site listed on high page rank pages that are relevant to your site. But that is always not so easy to do. The first link building technique I will mention is Article Submissions. Article Marketing can greatly increase your Google search exposure. You can write an article about something that is related to your site’s content, and at the end of the article you can add 3 anchor texts and 3 hyperlinks that will point back to your site. You can then submit this article to article directories and when your site is accepted into the directory you will get back links from the hyperlinks in the article. When creating the anchor texts in the articles make sure you are using your targeted keywords that I mentioned earlier.

Another link building option is submitting your website to website directories or also known as search directories. There are many free ones out there that you can submit your site to. Just like the article submission, when your site is listed on a web directory you will get a backlink from the directory which passes “juice” onto your site. When creating the information to submit your website to directories the most important thing is choosing the right Anchor Text. Make sure when you create Anchor text you are again using your targeted keywords in it. Also make at least 5 variations of the anchor text. If Google sees your site was submitted to 500 directories all with the same anchor text this may be seen as duplicate content and then you most likely will not receive credit for the backlink.

Google to Compete with PayPal?

PayPal is secure in its domination over the electronic payment industry, at least for now.

Following reports that Google planned to launch a new Internet payment service (nicknamed Google Wallet), Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, denied that Google would be directly competing with PayPal. He did, however, acknowledge that Google has plans for some type of electronic payment service.

Without revealing any details, Schmidt emphasized that the Google payment service will not offer the same sort of ??person to person, store-valued payments system? as PayPal provides.

The Internet commerce industry was rampant with rumours of the new Google service following an e-commerce conference hosted by securities firm Piper Jaffray. Speculation that Google Wallet would encroach on PayPal territory was reinforced by the appearance of a June 20th article in the Wall Street Journal which stated that Google was planning an online payment service to compete with PayPal.

PayPal is a unit of eBay and generates almost 25% of total eBay revenue. It is used by consumers for making a wide variety of Internet purchases. It allows purchasers to use their credit cards without divulging their credit card numbers to merchants. PayPal takes a percentage of each transaction and had revenues of $233.1 million in the first quarter of this year.

Most of Google??s revenue comes from online advertising and this expansion into online payments was seen by many in the industry as yet another example of the rivalry between the two companies.

Google is a giant in Internet commerce with revenues of $3.2 billion last year. A payment service that competed directly with PayPal would be a serious blow to both PayPal and eBay.

Google maintained silence about the rumours until Schmidt??s comments last Tuesday. Without elaborating, he stated that Google??s payment service would be an extension of its existing advertising programs.

Make sure that the length of your title does not exceed 65 characters. Keep the first 30 characters for search engines and the later 30 for your visitors. It is always advised that you keep your targeted keywords at the beginning of your title. Keep unique titles for each and every page and restrain yourself from repeating a keyword within the title. If you have to repeat keywords, make sure that it does not get repeated more than twice.

SEO experts advise using a one-word buffer word before your main keyword in the title. For example, if your targeted keyword is Myspace Widgets, start you title with ??Free Myspace Widgets? or ??Get Myspace Widgets? etc. This buffer-word is used to prevent the raising of over-optimization flags, which Google looks out for nowadays. Though there is no solid fact to prove this but is advised.

Description ?” Meta description is a short piece of text describing your page. Make sure that your page description doesn??t exceed 100 ?” 125 characters. Keep your targeted keywords at the first line of the description and keep it in a sentence without any punctuation. Though many believe that search engines now ignore the meta description, it is still advised to keep it as it provides additional text to your page and is very useful while optimizing image-based pages.

Keywords ?” This is another area which many SEO experts believe to be ignored by all the major search engines. Though I also believe in that, still I would suggest you keep your keyword tag just to complete the basic on page optimization checklist. Don??t stuff too many keywords within the tag and keep it within 200 characters.

Headers ?” Headers are also a very important on-page optimization factor that can influence your ranking in the SERP. Search engines weigh keywords heavily that are within the header tags. Again, many SEO gurus advise to start your header with H2 instead of the conventional H1. This is again to be safe from the clutches of over-optimization. There are many reputed search professionals who have claimed that using H1 resulted in a dip in their search engine rankings and hence suggest starting the header hierarchy with H2. Again don??t stuff too many keywords within the header tags. Make it look natural and meaningful.

Body Content ?” Search engine spiders read pages from top left to bottom right. So it is always a good idea to place keywords on the start of your page content as well as near the end of it. Sprinkle your keywords sensibly within your content and don??t go by the false idea that more the number of keywords, greater the chance of ranking higher. Search engines don??t rank that way.
