Google Adwords is one of the most powerful online marketing tools available. It is not the only effective marketing strategy but it can generate prospects fast. This article is Part 1 of a series of articles on how to explode your downline with google adwords without losing your shirt.
There is a principle that all successful Internet marketers must abide by if they want to be successful with Google Adwords or any form of Pay Per Click marketing. It is the 90/10 rule. It is very simple, 90% research 10% placing your ads.
All successful Internet marketers do a lot of research. This sounds so simple of a concept however the majority of Internet marketers do not do this. They get in such a hurry to get their advertising out there that they choose generic keywords and set their costs per click too high.
Let me share a little story about one of my google adwords campaigns to demonstrate this point. When I first got started marketing online I was in a rush like most people to make money as fast as possible. I decided to base my entire campaign around the keyword: “Financial Freedom”. At the time it made sense to me that my ad should target the right prospects for my business opportunity. I set my cost per click at .50 a click with a daily budget of $100.00. What happened next was a learning experience I’d rather forget. I produced numerous clicks and traffic to my website, however no one was opting in for more information. By the time I stopped the campaign I had lost over $200.00 without generating one prospect or sale.
This was a tough lesson but this is what I learned. The keyword Financial Freedom was too generic a keyword to base my entire campaign around. Most tire kickers and everybody I know wants to know about financial freedom but the majority are not serious, also the keyword financial freedom had too much competition and I set my cost per click too high for my budget. Thank God I stopped my campaign when I did.
After a number of failures I knew that I needed to learn how to market online. I knew I needed to establish a budget for continuing education. I purchased multiple E-books and courses. I even contributed to online forums and sought the help of a mentor. It wasn’t until I started listening and taking the advice from successful mentors that my online business made a shift for the better. This is also where I learned the 90/10 principle. The following information is how they told me to use google adwords as an online strategy and it is helping to explode my MLM business.
The mentor I was using had exploded his downline to over 4,000 people in 14 months using these same techniques. In doing research, think about what your customers are looking for. A good place to start your research is with amazon and just type in search words like MLM, Network Marketing, prospecting, sales, etc. Look at all the authors, their books, cd’s, dvd titles,. Also look at the metatags. (These are perfect keywords)
Next, go to google and yahoo and start researching these keywords. Pick a specific author and research him or her. For example, “Jim Rohn” (He’s a successful business philosopher and MLM success Guru), he has a huge following. Find out everything you can about his books, products, company, background, etc. These are the keywords you want to be using. They may not generate a huge response but will generate targeted traffic to your webpage. People will be searching for Jim Rohn or his products on google and depending on your ad placement they will click on your ad. More on ad placement and how to write an ad in a future article
There will be a certain amount of prospects who will opt in for more information depending upon your lead capture page or website. Your opt in rate will be higher because your generating targeted traffic. The more targeted traffic you generate to your lead capture page the more prospects that will opt-in and the best part is some will take action and buy immediately.
